About Us
We are volunteers of diverse backgrounds dedicated to revitalizing Rev. Dr. M. L. King Jr.'s dream of peace and harmony among all people in our community.

Additional information
Our work in the Kennett area involves several initiatives.
Since 2000, THE ANNUAL MLK CommUNITY BREAKFAST, founded by the late Mabel Latta Thompson brings together over 400 local, state and national public officials, students, business, faith and community leaders and friends. Proceeds benefit scholarships for graduating seniors at area high schools, summer camp for disadvantaged children and support of programs that that promote equality, peace, and the eradication of poverty in the Kennett area.

The Martin Luther King, Jr., CommUNITY ADVOCATES are civil rights activists committed to building and promoting relationships based on equality, justice, and peace in the Kennett communities as we deliberately intervene in racial conflict in existing organizations and structures and purposefully create forums for cross-racial, cross-cultural dialogues and interactions.

MLK CommUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS are awarded each year to graduating seniors at Avon-Grove, Kennett and Unionville high schools and Lincoln University. Students are invited to apply for two $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded at each school. The scholarships are awarded to deserving students, regardless of race or ethnicity, who promote the principles of Dr. King by their demonstrated commitment to school, community, family and faith. The scholarship application and guidelines can be found here.

CHANGE FOR CHANGE mobilizes the Kennett area to help feed and care for the hungry among us by donating spare change and online donations of any amount so that area Food Cupboards can provide grants to needy families for food, housing, and emergency assistance. The community brings containers or jars of coins to the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, for counting, receipts (and hot coffee) on Saturday before Dr. King's Birthday in January. All proceeds are distributed to Kennett Area Community Services Food Cupboard or Avon Grove Bridge Food Pantry (donor's choice).

The Martin Luther King, Jr. DAY OF SHARING is a one-day community wide volunteer effort held on Dr. King's birthday dedicated to projects benefiting local non-profit agencies and their clients.

The MLKCommUNITY invites all Southern Chester County residents, businesses and organizations to participate in and support our initiatives. Individuals or organizations interested in sponsorship should contact info@mlkcommunity.org.

The annual CommUNITY Breakfast is held on the third Monday of January and ticket information is available using this link or by calling 2156-820-1164.  Proceeds benefit MLK Scholarships to students at Avon-Grove, Kennett Square, and Unionville high schools as well as programs that promote peace, equality, and justice in our communit
